Algarve
The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal and it's one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations well known for glorious year round sunshine and excellent sandy beaches. These vary from secluded coves with amazing cliffs to vast stretches of golden sand all sea washed by the fresh and clear Atlantic ocean. Inland you will find quaint villages barely touched by tourism. Traces of the Moorish presence are still evident in the local architecture. The orange groves and blossoming almond trees add colour to this fertile region in contrast with the whitewashed traditional houses. Due to the mild nature of the weather the Algarve is ideal for many outdoor sporting activities such as water sports, golf in one of the numerous world-class golf courses, tennis, horse riding, and many more. The Algarve not only known for its cosmopolitan nightlife with many bars and clubs but also for the many waterside restaurants.

Azores
The Archipelago of the Azores is composed by 9 islands ( S. Miguel, Terceira, S. Jorge, Pico, Faial, Graciosa, Sta. Maria, Corvo and Flores) and it is on the same latitude as that of Lisbon and is about two hours flight from Portugal. Due to the purity of air the light is of such a quality that it emphasizes the colours of vegetation, flowers, and the difference between light and shade. Being part of Portugal, there are flights between Lisbon and Oporto to the main islands airports and also between all the islands with also ferryboat services. This latter should be checked by the visitor as the local services vary depending on the destination and naturally the condition of the local weather.

Cascais
This town was a small fishing port throughout early history as it lies protected from nature’s elements at the mouth of the Tagus River. Along the coast there are litle beaches (Praia da Rainha, Praia da Conceição) with charming surroundings and yachts bobbing on the water. Praia da Ribeira is a picturesque spot and still a traditional fishing harbour. The beaches of Cascais have names like the "Pescadores", "Marchioness" and the "Queen", reminding us of the time when it was the "Land of Kings and fishermen". Portuguese kings and many exiled kings have lived in Cascais and Estoril over the years. Today it is the centre for the Lisbon working international community and the "younger set" who enjoy the diverse and sophisticated nightlife.

Coimbra
This city holds a special place in the hearts of all the Portuguese. Rich in its history and said to be the oldest seat of learning in Portugal with a University founded in 1290 its makes it one of the oldest in the world. Nearby there are the “ Conimbriga” ruins, this place a large archaeological site of great interest with a museum to display the findings from the diggings. At first sight the town appears more devoted to commerce than learning. Nowadays Coimbra is known as the Portuguese student ‘s City. On the coast is Figueira da Foz a popular holiday resort town with a 16th Century fort.On east side of Coimbra are the towns of Lousã and Góis, both of which are worth visiting to see the architectural buildings. To the north is the Parque do Buçaco, a monastic centre from the 6th Century. Acting as a royal residential till 1889, actually is a luxury hotel with gardens that can be visited by everyone. Close by again to the north are the Spa towns of Luso and Curia that both provide hotels and sports activities for their guests.

Estoril
This town was really created from the curious needs of the two World Wars. Once a small Spa location conveniently located between Lisbon and Cascais, it became a prime location for European royal exiles forced to leave their own countries. Owing to a Mediterranean type microclimate, the Estoril Coast has mild winters and an ideal summer temperature which never gets too hot. The autumn is ideal and is like a second spring. Beaches on the Estoril Coast face south in a continuous line from the Tagus estuary and are known for their calm waters and fine sand. All modern facilities are available - changing rooms, beach tents, shades, restaurants, bars and so on. All over the years were also created several Golf courses along Estoril Coast.

Évora
Évora is located at Alentejo region, a vast open countryside area with undulating plains and rich fertile soil. With very few exceptions all the major towns are mainly reliant on agriculture, livestock and wood. Main cities are from “ Baixo Alentejo” Beja, and from “Alto Alentejo” Évora. Both are rich in history, ruins and historic buildings. Their stories reflect the turbulent backgrounds of invasion, battles and occupation, either by Romans, Moors, or feuding royal houses within Portugal. The weather in this region has both Mediterranean and Continental characteristics; the summers are hot and dry, the winters wet and cold, recording, in spring and autumn, mild temperatures of moderate range.

Madeira
Madeira is made of two main Islands, Madeira and Porto Santo. The main island, Madeira, is 56 km long and 19 km wide but it would take a day to drive around the island due to its volcanic peaks that soar up to 1.862 metres, then in places dropping sharply into the ocean and down another 1.000 metres to the seabed. This island in the Atlantic Ocean has a land area of about 797 square kilometres, and about 600 km away from the coast of Morocco. The hidden valleys and peaks of the Island all deserve a visit together as do the several botanical gardens, some of which are part of old private residencies opened to the public. A trip around the island has to take place in the village of Santana on the north coast where the visitor will still see the traditional triangular shaped homes of the islanders. For the healthy at heart is a trip to Pico do Areeiro and climb to the highest point on the island at 1.862 metres. For fun there is the special and unusual dry toboggan ride on the Monte in Funchal the main town of Madeira. Most visitors find too much to do on the island, and too little time! A very special time to visit Funchal is over the New Year’s Eve which is world famous for the quality of its celebration. About two hours by boat will take you to the island of Porto Santo that has what the main island lacks – a sandy beach of 9 km in length.

Oporto
Porto on the Rio Douro is where Portugal began. The population of Porto, approximately 500,000, is relatively young, energetic, and hard working. The citizens are proud of their reputation as defenders of civil liberties. They also love outdoor activities and are avid fans, especially of their Porto team in the World Soccer League. The city offers a variety of live performance venues in theatre, music, and dance and hosts Fantasporto, an annual International Film Festival of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Other attractions include the art and architecture showcased in churches built over a thousand years, beautiful bridges, local crafts (azulejos) and industries (wine-making). In 2001 Porto was one of two cities designated a European City of Culture.
